Catching up

I got a little behind linking to blog posts and articles. Here they are from the past few weeks:

08Aug - Examiner: Tourists Abroad: Photography on the Charles Bridge in Prague
11Aug - Examiner: Tourists at Home: Photography at the Arlington County Fair
11Aug - S+ART: Emotions & Photos
04Aug - S+ART: Summer Vacation Photos
28JUL - S+ART: Motivation

I’m also on the DCist staff now so there’s that, too….will be writing the Arts Agenda about once or twice a month, and maybe doing some other stories, as well.

Next up…

Wall Mountables opens this Friday at DC Arts Center in Adams Morgan. You’ll have until August 29th to get down to see some of my latest work, which is a departure from anything I’ve ever done before. I realize it’s record-breaking hotness out there these days, but with the gallery right on 18th Street, there are many options to grab a cold beverage before and after the show. So, stay home and be thirsty or come out and have fun (it’s a no-brainer…).

I’ll be showing new work that has really only come together within the past few weeks, and I’m still working out the kinks, so expect to see more in the future. These are instant film emulsion transfers, and they really need to be seen in person:

Wall Mountables runs from Friday, July 23rd through Sunday, August 29th at the DC Arts Center, 2438 18th Street, NW, Washington, D.C. Gallery hours are Wednesday through Sunday, 2-7 p.m.

Fixed

All of my photos may now be viewed right here, again, by clicking on “photos” above or in the feed on the left of the page. They can always be seen on Flickr, too.

Stats

I check website stats every few days to see where people are coming from and what they are looking at. I always get one or two visits per week from 20 Awesome Photography Blogs – Washington, DC, which was originally published in October 2008. Take a few minutes and look through the other 19 photo blogs listed there. Quite a few of them are my friends.

Technical Difficulties

The Flickr API key expired for the F Album plug in, so none of my photos are feeding in from Flickr. Stay tuned while I find some time to figure out how to fix this.

In the meantime, all of my photos may be viewed on Flickr right here.

And, now this…

I was going to wait a little while before telling anyone, at least until I had five or six articles written, but I’m not really the patient type. I am writing for the Washington Examiner as the Arlington Travel Photography Examiner.

A link to my page, where you can subscribe to my articles, add my page to your RSS feed, or favorite something if you really like it, is right here. (I know the article about St. Elizabeth’s Hospital is redundant, but I wrote it for the sample article I had to submit with the application and used it for the S+ART post because I really am that lazy).

A little update

Whenever I travel, I either take the wrong cameras, the wrong film, not enough film, or I try to conserve film so it will last the entire trip and come home with less than I thought I had shot. Italy wasn’t much different, but I think I learned a lot about how the angle of the sun in different lattitudes affects the amount of light at street level and that I should probably review that type of thing before I go somewhere, and stick to higher film speeds.

One irritating little piece of information I learned when I was printing some of these photos is that the Canon is leaving scratches lengthwise across the negative strip. Grrr.

I finally finished developing and scanning all the photos, and you can view the entire set here.

In other news, for the first time in two years, I don’t have any shows scheduled. There may be one or two this summer that pop up, and I have a few submissions into juried shows that I’m still waiting to hear about, but I might take a little break and focus on creating some new work. There are a few things I want to try in the darkroom, but it will be a few months before I’m ready to show it. Thanks to all of you who have come out to see my work so much in the past few years!!

Unrelated, I ran the Cherry Blossom 10-Miler on Sunday for the fifth time and took 23 minutes off the last time I actually finished it in 2007. (I was unable to finish in 2008 and 2009 due to a muscle tear injury). Official time was 2:04! And, I’m registered for the Marine Corps Marathon, again.

See ya!

Update: I’ll have a piece in ArtDC’s 12×12 show in May. More details to come….
